On this tour, we will head to one of the world’s freshest waters, Lake Khuvsgul. Lake Khuvsgul is one of Mongolia’s most stunning natural wonders, located in the country’s far north, close to the Siberian border. Enjoy hiking and horseback riding through forests and meadows or boating and kayaking on the lake. Spend half-day at a Tsaatan (reindeer herders) camp and another half-day with yak breeders.

Tour Plan

Day 1 Ulaanbaatar - Murun town

Drive north to Murun town (800 km or 500 miles), center of Khuvsgul Province. Settle into a local hotel in Murun town after 10-hour driving through rural Mongolia.

* Food & drink: Lunch at roadside cafe and dinner at local hotel

Day 2 Murun town - Lake Khuvsgul

After breakfast, continue the journey to the north (110 km or 70 miles) and reach the Lake Khuvsgul. Settle into a ger camp. Enjoy nature, explore the surroundings at your own pace, and relax after long driving. Horse riding, boating and kayaking are available on the shore at additional costs.

Day 3 Visit Tsaatan (reindeer breeder) family and yak breeders

Visit a reindeer breeder family and stay with them for a half-day. The reindeer breeder family you visit is a representative of the Tsaatan (reindeer breeder) people who moved from the Taiga close to the lake to supplement their income. Visit yak breeders on the way back to the camp and taste yak milk products.

Day 4 Lake Khuvsgul - Ulaanbaatar

Drive back to Ulaanbaatar.
